If you are new to peels it can be a bit daunting to figure out what you need. Many times we get stuck on simple questions like:
How soon will I get results? Or is this the strongest acid you have?
Trust me. You do not want to put on the strongest acid available your first time performing a peel, or even after you have done peels for awhile. Too strong too fast is a recipe for trouble.
There is a great deal of science and logic behind peels. Stronger is not always better, and what works for some might not work for others. It's about finding the right solution that fits your skin. And, understanding that even though a peel is stronger than an over the counter product, it will still take time.
There is NO one size fits all solution. Best you start with a low strength and increase as your skin builds tolerance
** Must start with a low strength as a beginner
** PLEASE READ AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THE GENERAL CAUTIONS SECTION BEFORE YOU START
1. Cleanse your skin with a non-acid cleansing wash. Do not scrub skin. Do not use hot water. Rinse thoroughly and pat skin dry. Apply vaseline around your eyes, nostrils, corner of your mouth and lips
2. pH Prep Solution - Apply on a cotton pad and wipe your face to remove oils and dirt from the skin surface. Leave to dry. Skip this step if there's no pH Prep Solution.
3. Apply the peel evenly with a flat cotton pad. Make sure the pad is wet but not dripping. Begin at the forehead and work your way down the face, using a thin layer of the peel. Leave on the skin for 1-3 minutes.
a. Apply another layer after 3 minutes. For a light peel, apply 1-3 layers (beginner), for a medium strength peel 4-6 layers (intermediaite), and for a deep peel apply 7-8 layers (advanced).. If your skin starts to sting uncontrollably on the first layer please stop and apply the peel neutraliser immediately. Leave for 30-60 seconds to fully deactivate the peel
4. Rinse with cool water and cleanse again with your non acidic cleansing wash.
5. Pat dry.
6. Moisturize with a non-acid, non retinoid moisturizer. No lightening products either.
7. As with all treatments of this type, a good sunscreen is critical to extending your results. If you are not able to commit to using a sunscreen, this is not the treatment you should choose as you will end up damaging your skin
*** Peeling will begin in 3 to 5 days from the last application of the chemical peel and will last for about 5 to 7 days. Peeling intensity varies according to peel and strength of peel used. Never forcefully lift the peeling skin.
Skin will appear dark dry and squeezed and sometimes itchy. This is due to the dead skin made so by the peel application. A hydrocortisone 1% cream will help with itchiness.
Do not rub or scrub your face during the peeling process. Just apply your moisturiser and cut off the peeling skin as it lifts. Avoid acids or exfoliants while peeling. U can resume using exfoliants 3-5 days after peeling has completed or skin is no longer tender
